2019 giving hope scholarship recipient

Micah B.

Freshman at Mississippi College

The Chris Hope Foundation established the Giving Hope Scholarship in 2018 to further the dreams of those who have faced or are currently facing pediatric cancer. We believe that this disease already takes so much from its victims and the chance to pursue higher education should not be added to the list of robbed opportunities. This competitive and achievement-based scholarship is awarded following an in-depth review of all applicants along with their accomplishments, needs, and desire to attend college.  The requirements and application process are outlined below. The number of scholarships awarded will be based on funding and the number of applicants. Check back at the start of 2020 for details on next year's scholarship application process.

Applicants must:

  • Be high-school seniors or college freshmen
  • Have been diagnosed with cancer at some point in their life
  • Plan to pursue a degree at an accredited U.S. post-secondary institution
  • Demonstrate a financial need
  • Be active in their school and community as well as be self-motivated
  • Uphold strong educational and professional goals
  • Complete the linked application and submit all required documents and attachments by the listed deadline

Application Process: To ensure that a fair, equitable, objective and non-discriminatory selection process is implemented, all applicants must adhere to the same guidelines and submit the required application form and attachments. If no applicants meet the qualifications of the scholarship for which they are applying for, the scholarship advisory committee has the option of not choosing a recipient. Following receipt of applications, the Foundation staff will review and identify qualified applications. In the final steps, the scholarship advisory board will meet to evaluate the qualifications of applicants. All scholarship award recommendations shall be subject to the approval of the Community Foundation Board of Directors. Awards will be announced by the Foundation through written notice to students, as well as through a consolidated press release.
